What is the CDHCI vendor list?
CDHCI lets an eligible Albertan choose their own home care agency instead of having one assigned. The agency must be registered with Alberta Blue Cross, and it bills Alberta Blue Cross directly for the hours your case manager authorized.
The government’s own brochure tells clients to choose from the Alberta Blue Cross registered vendor list. That list is published as an interactive service zone map on the Alberta Blue Cross website, not as a downloadable PDF. Alberta Blue Cross notes the list is updated regularly and may change without notice, so always check the live map rather than a saved copy.
AHS or Assisted Living Alberta? Who manages CDHCI in 2026
Home care in Alberta moved from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) as part of the province’s health system restructuring. The current CDHCI brochure, updated September 2026, refers to ALA case managers authorizing hours. Many websites, including older agency pages, still say “AHS approved.” The program works the same way: a public case manager assesses needs, authorizes hours, and you choose a registered agency.
How to search the CDHCI vendor list, step by step
- Go to the Alberta Blue Cross Client Directed Home Care page and scroll to the service zone map.
- Type your parent’s postal code, town or city into the search bar.
- Use the filters to narrow the results (see the next section).
- Write down two or three agencies that fit, then call each one.
- Confirm the agency can serve your exact address. Alberta Blue Cross says the highlighted zones are general service areas only.
If the map does not load, Alberta Blue Cross recommends using a supported browser, or you can call 1-800-394-1965.
What the filters mean for your family
Minimum consecutive hours per visit
Choices are 0 to 2 hours, 3 to 4 hours, or 5 hours or more. If your parent is authorized for short daily visits, an agency with a long minimum visit may not fit, or may bill you for the extra time.
Estimated hourly rate
Choices are $30 or less, $31 to $35, $36 to $40, or $41 or more. This matters because CDHCI pays up to the maximum hourly rate shown in your Alberta Blue Cross approval letter. If an agency charges more than that rate, or you add hours beyond your authorization, you pay the difference.
Language
You can select more than one language. For a parent who is more comfortable in Mandarin, Cantonese or French, this filter is often the most important one.
Questions to ask before you choose an agency
The CDHCI brochure is clear that ALA is not affiliated with any registered agency and that clients are responsible for researching providers. These questions help you compare agencies fairly:
- Can you serve our exact address, and can caregivers reach us in winter?
- What is your hourly rate, and how does it compare to the maximum rate in our approval letter?
- How do you bill hours beyond our authorization, and will you explain any extra cost in writing before care starts?
- What is your minimum visit length?
- Which languages do your caregivers speak, and can we have a consistent caregiver?
- Are caregivers screened with a criminal record and vulnerable sector check?
- Do you carry liability insurance and WCB coverage?
- What happens if our regular caregiver is sick? Under CDHCI, families are expected to have a backup plan, so ask how the agency helps.
- How do you handle statutory holidays, nights and weekends?
- How will you keep our family updated?
Before you use the list: get assessed
You can only use CDHCI after a public home care case manager assesses your needs and authorizes hours. You or a family member can call home care intake directly:
- Calgary: 403-943-1920 or 1-888-943-1920
- Edmonton: 780-496-1300
- North and Central zones: 1-855-371-4122
- South zone: 1-866-388-6380

Is Pinnacle Age Well on the CDHCI vendor list?

- Where we serve: Calgary and Edmonton and their surrounding areas, and elsewhere in Alberta when we can match a qualified caregiver nearby.
- Languages: caregivers who speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese or French.
- Billing: we bill Alberta Blue Cross directly for your authorized hours, and we explain any difference before care starts.
- Consistency: each client is matched with a consistent caregiver, so small changes get noticed early.
- Screening: every caregiver passes a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
